Wheel Spacer Questions Answered
Wheel spacers are one of the simplest ways to improve the stance, fitment and overall look of your car, but it’s important to choose the right size and type for your setup. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions we get about wheel spacers, including fitment, safety, handling, bolt length and whether they’re suitable for daily or track use.
Are wheel spacers safe?
Yes, when they’re fitted correctly. We always recommend using quality hub-centric spacers, the correct bolt length, and making sure everything is torqued properly. Cheap universal spacers or incorrect hardware are where people usually run into problems.
What size wheel spacers do I need?
It depends on the car, wheel size, offset and how aggressive you want the fitment to look. As a general rule, we suggest measuring the gap between the wheel and the arch first, rather than guessing. If you’re unsure, send us your car details and wheel specs and we’ll help point you in the right direction or checkout our guide here
Will wheel spacers affect the way my car drives?
A small spacer setup usually won’t cause any major issues, and many customers fit them purely to improve stance. Larger spacers can change the track width and steering feel slightly, so it’s worth choosing a sensible size for your setup.
Do I need longer wheel bolts with spacers?
In most cases, yes. If you’re fitting slip-on spacers, you’ll normally need longer bolts to match the spacer thickness. For bolt-on spacers, the spacer bolts to the hub first, then the wheel bolts to the spacer. Either way, the correct hardware is essential.
Can I use Bimecc wheel spacers on track?
Yes, provided they’re high-quality, hub-centric spacers and fitted correctly. For track use, we’d always recommend checking torque before and after sessions, and avoiding overly aggressive spacer sizes that could create rubbing or unnecessary load.
Will Bimecc wheel spacers make my wheels rub?
They can if the spacer size is too aggressive. Rubbing depends on ride height, tyre size, wheel offset and suspension setup. We always recommend checking clearance properly, especially if the car is lowered or running wider tyres.
