Girodisc FAQ's

Are Girodisc brake discs a direct replacement for OEM discs?

In most applications, yes. Girodisc systems are designed as direct replacements for the original brake disc and usually work with the factory calipers and pads. Some applications may include spacers or longer bolts if required, so always check the exact vehicle fitment before ordering.

What is the benefit of Girodisc 2-piece discs?

Girodisc 2-piece discs use a cast iron rotor ring with a lightweight aluminium centre hat. This helps reduce unsprung and rotational weight while improving heat management compared with many standard one-piece discs.

Are Girodisc discs good for track days?

Yes. Girodisc discs are well suited to fast road, track day and clubsport use because they are designed to deal with repeated heat cycles and demanding braking loads.

Do I need special brake pads with Girodisc discs?

Not always, but the right pad choice makes a big difference. For road use, a fast road pad may be enough. For track use, pair Girodisc discs with a proper performance or motorsport pad such as Pagid Racing, Endless, Ferodo DS or EBC Racing.

Can I replace just the Girodisc rotor rings?

On many Girodisc 2-piece applications, yes. Once the Girodisc hat is fitted, replacement cast iron rotor rings can be fitted when the discs wear out, helping reduce long-term running costs.

Are Girodisc discs better than OEM BMW discs?

For cars used hard on road or track, Girodisc discs can offer better heat management, lower weight and replaceable rings compared with many standard factory discs. For normal road driving, OEM discs may still be suitable.

Are Girodisc discs suitable for carbon ceramic brake conversions?

Some Girodisc kits are designed to replace factory carbon ceramic discs with iron rotors. This can be a popular option for track use, but the correct pads must be used with iron discs. Girodisc specifically advises changing pads when converting from carbon ceramic to iron rotors.

How do I know which Girodisc discs fit my car?

Check your vehicle model, year, caliper colour, disc size and factory brake package. BMW M cars in particular can have different fitments depending on whether they have blue, red, silver, gold, 2NH or carbon ceramic brake options.
