On applicable ZF 8HP transmissions, the transmission filter is integrated into the oil sump. This means a proper gearbox service involves replacing the complete sump and filter assembly rather than simply draining and refilling the transmission fluid.

This kit is based around the Genuine BMW oil sump and integrated transmission filter, BMW part number 24 11 5 A13 115, which BMW lists as a replacement/service component for a large range of vehicles equipped with its 8-speed automatic transmission.

The earlier 24118612901 sump/filter assembly shown in BMW parts information is superseded/compatible with the later service-kit arrangement for many ZF 8HP applications.

There are multiple versions of the ZF 8HP and BMW sump assemblies, so fitment should be confirmed against the vehicle VIN before ordering. For example, BMW's current 24115A13115 listing covers a very broad range of individual BMW applications, rather than every ZF 8HP-equipped BMW without exception.

Important installation information

The ZF 8HP does not use a conventional "fill it with X litres and you're done" procedure.

BMW specifically states that the transmission oil level must be adjusted according to the relevant repair instructions and that the required oil quantity can vary.

Correct transmission temperature, vehicle level and filling procedure are therefore important when carrying out the service.

We recommend installation by an experienced BMW or ZF transmission specialist.
