One of their latest innovations, born out of extensive R&D, is the Active Autowerke F80 M3 and F82 M4 Equal Length Mid-Pipe (patent pending), designed to refine the exhaust note of the S55 engine. Known for their world-famous F8X single mid-pipe, Active Autowerke continues to innovate by addressing the uneven exhaust pulse created by the twin-turbo setup of the S55 engine.
In an inline-six engine, the exhaust pulse is typically smooth and balanced, producing a full and throaty sound. However, the S55's twin-turbo design results in an uneven sound that resembles two inline-three engines competing against each other, often leading to a high-pitched, less desirable exhaust note. This is caused by the significant variance in length between the front and rear downpipes, leading to unequal pulses that merge improperly in traditional crossover systems, whether stock or aftermarket.
After extensive research and testing, Active Autowerke identified that the solution was to equalise the length of the exhaust pipes before the merge. Unlike previous solutions that attempted to correct the issue behind the differential, which required a new rear exhaust system, Active Autowerke took a different approach. By adjusting the length of the passenger side mid-pipe and introducing a unique crossover design using sinusoidal pipes, they successfully corrected the downpipe length variance. This innovation allows the S55 engine to produce a balanced, six-cylinder sports car exhaust note, eliminating the notorious "weed eater" sound.
The Active Autowerke F8X Equal Length Mid Pipe is engineered for a precise fit on both the F80 M3 and F82 M4, with an immediate improvement in exhaust sound noticeable upon acceleration.

- 2x Genuine BMW S55 Downpipe Gasket – Exhaust Side (M2 Competition, M3 & M4)
- 4x Genuine BMW F10 F80 F87 G15 Catalytic Exhaust Centre Collar Nut – M8 (Including M550iX, 760i, M850iX & M6)
